Mothers day

I have dreamt of becoming a mum for as long as I can remember.

When I was little, I would play mummies and daddies with my friends, take care of my dolls and play families. I had a large barbie collection and they would all have babies and families. Coming from a small family, I always wanted to have a big family of my own. Growing up as an only child is quite a lonely lifestyle, and I didn’t want that for my children. I had it all planned in my head, I would have at least 2 children, ideally a boy and a girl and life would be perfect.

Turns out that may all be a dream that can never be achieved. But actually, having our bubba has made everything perfect. If we are ever lucky enough to have another (no chance naturally!) then that would be the cherry on our already perfect little cake!

Mothers day has always been hard for me. I have always loved being able to show my mum the extra appreciation for everything she does for me – us women are amazing! But its been bittersweet, as year after year I continued celebrating my mum without becoming a mum myself. I used to love and hate looking at gifts for mothers day – would I ever be bought anything special with “mummy” on it…? It began to seem more and more impossible as the years went on, especially after our failed 1st round of IVF.

To be pregnant on Mothers Day 2018 was special. Although we didn’t celebrate it, I knew I was a mum and that made the day a little easier to deal with. I was still terrified of what could go wrong in pregnancy but it gave me a really positive boost. I was around 28/30 weeks pregnant at mothers day last year. I still remember feeling like it wasn’t happening, although the rather large bump was nice and obvious by then!

Fast forward to this year, finally able to celebrate the day! I was thoroughly spoilt by my little man and hubby! I really am the luckiest lady ever!

We spent the day together just the 3 of us, and I got treated to a delicious lunch at Bills restaurant in Norwich. The food was fab as always, and their service was exceptional! They made me feel really special, and were all so good with Logan. Nothing was too much trouble for them, and although they were busy we didn’t feel rushed or like the staff didn’t have time for us. As a special bonus, they were offering glasses of prosecco to mums – I felt quite strange being offered it! But it didn’t take me long to say yes and even less time to drink it 😂

I truly loved my first mothers day, but I still spent alot of time thinking of those who are still struggling, those who are still on their journey to be a mum. It took a bit of thought before sharing my mothers day happiness on facebook and instagram – I know how painful those mothers day posts can be. I tried my best to be all inclusive, whilst also taking a second to really allow myself to indulge in my first mothers day. You can see my instagram post and message to all women here 💙

I am incredibly lucky that my dreams have come true – for anyone still on your journey, I am sending you so much love and strength to keep pursuing your dream.
